    PIONEER OF WOOD'S GAP
    B. 1772
    D.  1856.

Born about 1776 according to 1850 census. Died 20 Jan 1859 according to  the
Patrick County Death Register. Son of John and Milly Wood of Bedford  County.

2. RACHEL COCKRAM WOOD
    WIFE # 1, MOTHER OF 8 CHILDREN: HENRY, GERMAN,
    ALEXANDER, PETER, JOHN R., JEREMIAH, EDWARD & ANN
    SHE DIED 13 DEC.  1823.

Daughter of Edward and Mary Cockram. Date of death probably incorrect,  as it
is before Dickey’s marriage to Fannie Brammer. First child, Henry, born  1798
in Franklin County.

3. FANNIE BRAMMER WOOD
    WIFE # 2, NO CHILDREN.
     DIED 30 AUG. 1830.

Married  in Patrick County 8 Sep 1823.

4. ELIZABETH DEHART WOOD
    WIFE # 3, MOTHER OF 4 CHILDREN: PRESTON, JACKSON,
     DOLLIE, LUCINDA.
     SHE DIED 26 OCT. 1838

Probably daughter of James and  Catherine DeHart. First child born about 1832.

5. LUCY VIA WOOD
    WIFE # 4, MOTHER OF 6 CHILDREN: FRED, BYRDINE, GEORGE,  NANCY, RUTH,
    MATILDA,    SHE DIED ABOUT 1851.

Daughter of Richard and  Frances Via. First child born 1841. Date of death Aug 1855.

7. ANDREW J.  CANNADAY

Patrick County birth  register says Andrew J. Cannaday was born in Nov 1867
to Constant Cannaday and  his second wife, Elizabeth. Andrew’s residence in the
1930 census was Floyd  County, Court House District, south end. Golden was
the son of Andrew J.  Cannaday.

The Cannadays married two of Anna Wood and David Cockram's sons. Anna being dau of Richard Wood and Rachel Cockram. The sons were David Cockram Jr married Ellie Cannaday and Peter Cockram married Mahala Cannaday.

Son of William  H. and Annie R. Griffith in Floyd County, Court House
District in 1920  census.

The Patrick County birth register says  Richard A. Griffith was born 26 Sep
1878 to Artensa Griffith, and the 1880  census for Smith River District of
Patrick County lists Richard A. Griffith age  1 in the family of Sparrell F. and
Artemesia [Hall] Griffith. According to the  1900 Patrick County, Smith River
District census, Clara White was born June  1882, daughter of Alexander and
Bettie A. White, and still single. She married  Richard A. Griffith before 1920.

The Griffiths are related to Richard Wood in this way:
Richard and Rachel's son Alexander Wood had a son John
Wesley Wood; He married Celia Lily in WV and they had
a dau, Minerva who married Henry Griffith. Now I know
these folks aren't in your list but there may be other
marriages or connections that I am not aware of.
I suspect the woman named Iowa you reference below who
married Haynes is the sister to Henry Griffith as he
had a sister named Iowa Griffith who first married
David Cockram, the same David Cockram who first
married Ellie Cannady.

Born in Patrick County on 10 June  1880 to Gabriel A. and Lurinda A. Cockram,
who lived in the Smith River District  of Patrick County. Gabriel A. Cockram
was the son of Richard and Judith Ann Wood  Cockram. Richard was the son of
David Preston and Anna Wood Cockram, and Judith  Ann Wood was the daughter of
Jeremiah and Mary Ann DeHart Wood. Both Anna and  Jeremiah Wood were children of
Richard and Rachel Wood.

Probably son of  William H. and Millie Jane Cockram, below.

William Harvey Cockram was the son of David Preston and Anna Wood  Cockram,
mentioned above. He lived in Floyd County.

15. MILLIE J. DEHART
       WIFE OF WM. H. COCKRAM
       B. 30 MAY, 1847
       D. 13 FEB.  1941

Millie Jane Dehart daughter of James Wilson and Rebecca Jane Martin DeHart.

16. DAVID COCKRAM
      CO. D, 51 INF. C. S. A.   (NO DATES)

Born about  1845 to David Preston and Anna Wood Cockram (see above). David
married (1)  Ellender Cannaday, daughter of Constant and Elizabet Cannaday (see
above),  before 1870, and (2) Iowa A. Griffith 29 July 1888. Iowa A. Griffith
was the  sister of Richard A. Griffith (see above).

He married Iowa A. Griffith Cockram, widow of David, in the 1920s, and  in
the 1930 census they were in Floyd County, Court House District, south  end.

Possibly James E.  McAlexander, son of Jessie A. and Mary E. McAlexander (see

According to the 1930 census Jesse A. and Mary E. ?  were married in the
1890s and lived in Floyd County Court House District, south  end.
The McAlexanders were related to Richard Wood thru a daughter with his 4th wife, Lucy
Via.  The daughter was Laura Matilda Wood who married Charles McAlexander.

Jefferson D. Wood was born in West Virginia to John B. and Lucy A. Wood (see
below). He married (1) Malinda A. ? about 1889, then Salina E. P. Salmons
before  1920. Salina E. P. Salmons was listed as a daughter age 8 of Joseph and
Lethanda  B. Salmons in the 1880 census for the Smith River District of Patrick
County. In  the 1930 census John Jeff and Salina lived in the Smith River
District of  Patrick County.

26. LUCINDA A. WOOD
      WIFE OF JOHN B. WOOD
       B. 14 JULY 1840

Possibly Lucinda A. Cannaday daughter of Constant and his first wife  Sarah
(see above), last recorded with her parents at age 19 in the 1860 Patrick
County, Smith River District census.

27. JOHN B. WOOD
      B. 1839
      D. 7 MAR. 1907
      AGE 68 YRS. GONE SOLDIER

Born  in Indiana and therefore probably the son of Henry and Nancy Bryant
Wood. Henry,  first child of Richard and Rachel, left Patrick County in the 1830s
and settled  in Sullivan County Indiana. John B. Wood married Loucinda around
1864, and they  settled in the Smith River District of Patrick County before
1870.
